Review Comments: Anders Osborne is an integral part of the New Orleans music scene. A Grammy-winning songwriter/producer for artists such as Tim McGraw, Keb' Mo', and Dr. John, Anders is also a ferocious performer in his own right. His original songs (some were recorded for the first time on this album) integrate blues, ballads, roots-rock, and jazz in an intricate musical gumbo. Add to that a healthy dose of spur-of-the-moment jams and improvisations, and you have what has become one of the most revered live performers in the Crescent City. Joined by band mates Kirk Joseph (sousaphone), Tim Green (tenor sax), and Eric Bolivar (drums), plus sit-ins Andy Forest (harmonica), Hiro Mano (guitar), and John Fohl (guitarist in Dr. John's band), this live multi-track recording is classic Anders Osborne.

OCTOBER NEWS
Live recording at Tipitina's On November 17th, we're going to record our show at Tipitina's. We plan on having some special guests and if you're in New Orleans that night, I hope you can make the show. We'll also be playing a couple of the songs from the upcoming studio record so it should be a special night. We'll send out an announcement once the record is up for sale and you'll be able to purchase it right here on the site as well.

New studio record I recorded four new songs for my upcoming record and we're in the process of mixing and mastering now. We're still shooting for a release around Jazz Fest and will keep you posted.

SEPTEMBER NEWS
'Round here...'I've been writing up in Nashville and one of my songs, "Round Here" - that I co-wrote with Troy Verges, Gordie Sampson and Blair Daly - was just recorded by the band Hot Apple Pie. They're on Mercury Records and the record should come out sometime early next year.

The next New Orleans show is this Friday night, September 15, at dba @ 10 PM for $10. I'll also be playing with the Voice of the Wetlands Allstars at the Telluride Blues Brews and BBQ Festival on September 17th and then head with VOWA to the San Francisco Blues Festival on September 23rd. Check out the Dates page for the full tour schedule.

I'm heading into the studio next week to continue work on my upcoming record. We're looking to have the record wrapped up in the next couple months so that it'll be out in time for a Jazz Fest 2007 release date.

I'll also be making a live recording of the just-announced show at Tipitina's on Friday, November 17th. The recording of that night's set will be onsale just in time for the holiday season. I'll keep you posted...

JUNE NEWS
'It takes two...' This month I have two sets of two shows in two east coast cities. I'll be in New York this week (June 9 and 10) at Coda. Then at the end of the month I'll be in Washington D.C. for two shows, one at the City Tavern Club and one at the BBQ Battle. Check out the Dates page for all the details.

I've got an all-new MySpace profile up, please take a spin over there to check it out.

It doesn't seem like Jazzfest has been over for a full month. Jon Pareles of The New York Times closed his Fest review with this: "No one at the festival, even those playing the happiest good-time music, pretended that the hurricane hadn't happened. Anders Osborne sounded at first as if he was singing a breakup song when he played a rolling rhythm-and-blues shuffle during his set this afternoon. "Talk about wrecking a perfectly happy home," he sang. "You took me and shook me, then you left me all alone in the dark." And then came the chorus: 'Oh, Katrina. ...' "

Stay tuned for more summertime live show info, including additonal Voice of the Wetlands All-Stars shows, as well as an album update...

YOGI BERRA EXPLAINS JAZZ (attributed)

Interviewer: Yogi, can you explain jazz?
Yogi: I can't, but I will.... 90% of all jazz is half improvisation. The other half is the part people play while others are playing something they never played with anyone who played that part. So if you play the wrong part, its right. If you play the right part, it might be right if you play it wrong enough. But if you play it too right, it's wrong.
Interviewer: I don't understand.
Yogi: Anyone who understands jazz knows that you can't understand it. It's too complicated. That's what's so simple about it.
Interviewer: Do you understand it?
Yogi: No. That's why I can explain it. If I understood it, I wouldn't know anything about it.
Interviewer: Are there any great jazz players alive today?
Yogi: No. All the great jazz players alive today are dead. Except for the ones that are still alive. But so many of them are dead, that the ones that are still alive are dying to be like the ones that are dead.
Interviewer: What is syncopation?
Yogi: That's when the note that you should hear now happens either before or after you hear it. In jazz, you don't hear notes when they happen because that would be some other type of music. Other types of music can be jazz, but only if they're the same as something different from those other kinds.
Interviewer: Now I really don't understand.
Yogi: I haven't taught you enough for you to not understand jazz that well.

THE LATEST FROM ANDERS:

I just finished producing a local New Orleans artist named Jesse Moore. The CD will be out in stores September 8th 2005.

Another project I had the pleasure to produce is "Tribal Butterfly," a singer/songwriter duo based out of Houma, Louisiana. CD release date TBA.

I will be performing with the Voice of the Wetlands Allstars (Dr. John, Cyril Neville, George Porter, Jr., Big Chief Monk Boudreaux, Jumpin' Johnny Sansone, Tab Benoit and Waylon Thibodeaux) on October 1 and 2 in Houma, Louisiana. More information on this concert and the upcoming CD release at http://www.voiceofthewetlands.com/sunshine.htm.

I am also writing and preparing for my own studio recording coming up August 8th. I have invited my dear old friend from Los Angeles, CA Wally Ingram [Stockholm Syndrome, David Lindley, Jackson Browne] to play drums/ percussion. Gordy Sampson, a multi instrumentalist/ artist extraordiniare from Novia Scotia, shall be playing various instruments and singing. On bass we will enjoy the unmistakable vibe and warm tone of Ethan Pilzer [Big & Rich, The Evinrudes, Carolyn Dawn Johnson]. Putting it all on tape during our hot summer week in Nashville TN will be my new found soul brother and favorite engineer Mr Ben Fowler. The man producing, reducing, infusing, supervising and over all making sure the final result is an actual record, is my very close friend Troy Verges.

I hope the summer is treating y'all right.

It was anther beautiful Jazz Fest in New Orleans this year. With weather in the 70s and 80s, mostly sunshine, and music filling every part of the city, who could complain?

Anders' Jazzfest was filled with highlights:

Both shows at the Rock and Bowl were great. April 22nd found old friend and collaborator Kevin O'Day behind the drum kit, and Rock and Bowl owner John Blancher singing the Star Spangled Banner in the middle of Anders' set and dancing shirtless onstage during Stoned Drunk and Naked. The sold-out gig on April 30th following Snooks Eaglin was classic Rock and Bowl fun!

The show at Carrollton Station on April 28th was a great acoustic showcase for the songs of Anders, John Gros , Michael Skinkus, and Mark Mullins. The crowd ate up every minute of it, right until the very end at 3:30am!

On the 29th, Anders managed to fit 3 shows into his schedule one in the early evening at the Fat City Soiree in City Park, followed by a sold-out gig backed up by Bonerama at Tipitina's French Quarter, and finally joining Kirk Joseph for his Sousafunk CD release party at Rosy's Jazz Hall.

To cap it all off, Anders and his regular band's afternoon set at the Sprint Stage on May 1st was blessed with sunny mid-70s weather and added fun from guest John Gros on organ.

Yeah you right!

04.27.05
Jazz Fest 2005 is almost here! Don't miss Anders' Jazz Fest show on May 1st, 1:15PM @ the Sprint stage. This will be Anders and his band, featuring Kirk Joseph, Tim Green and Eric Bolivar.

Anders will be participating at Kirk Joseph's "Backyard Groove" CD release party held at Rosy's Jazz Hall in New Orleans, LA  April 29th

A new album is slated to be recorded in August. It is going to be produced by Troy Verges.

Anders will put on a solo performance at The String Cheese Incident’s annual music festival at "Hornings Hideout" in North Plains, Oregon.  The festival runs from August 4 to August 7, and Anders’ set will be on Sunday August 7th.
